Talent or Tenacity Podcast: Kaitlin Brown of Grace Equestrian talks mindset and self-awareness

We have two rules: “…stay on the horse, remember the course”… simple words to live by, for equestrians and in life in general! Kaitlin Brown of Grace Equestrian was a delight to interview for episode 3 of the Talent or Tenacity podcast!

I mentioned in a previous post that I decided to take a break from triathlon racing (not training!) and get back to riding horses. Not only has being on a horse brought me so much joy, I have also had the privilege of meeting some amazing people. It is so invigorating to be around strong, intelligent, goal-oriented women, and Kaitlin Brown is ALL OF THOSE! I had the honor of interviewing Kaitlin for the 3rd episode of Talent or Tenacity. I met Kaitlin at an Equestrian Mental Coaching workshop that I ran in February. We instantly connected and I came away feeling inspired by my meeting with her. Kaitlin brought a lovely group of ladies to the workshop, all of whom were a joy to meet and reminded me why I chose a career working with athletes.

I knew Kaitlin had worked her way up the ranks in the Hunter/Jumper disciplines and had ridden with some TOP trainers in the USA. I wanted to hear about her experiences, what she learned as she rose through the ranks, and what she could share with other riders or athletes from her own ups and downs in sport. I knew Kaitlin had faced adversity in coming back from a bad fall ( happens to many equestrians) and I wanted to get her insight about how to face your fears and “get back on the horse” - literally and figuratively.

Kaitlin shared with us her mindset about working with your nerves and allowing your mind and body to operate with capacity for the highly charged situations like riding at shows, getting back on a horse after a fall, working through challenges on the horse, etc. Her emphasis is on fun and enjoying the process; a concept Top Line focuses heavily on. Her emphasis is also on the horses’ physical and mental health, which is what makes her a caring, detail-oriented, and successful trainer. Thank you so much for sharing your insights with us Kaitlin, we can’t wait for PART II! You can find episode 3 HERE
