Top Line Early Spring Update

Lots to Update!

After a very busy 2021 race season, the holidays, and the start of a new year, this is a very long overdue update! It's been a few months since I have posted an update with Top Line news so with a new race season around the corner, now seemed like an appropriate time;)!

The late season of 2021 was action-packed with Top Line athletes racing in triathlons, road races, and trail races/adventures. Many of our athletes have continued to stay committed to racing despite the "ups and downs", shall we say, of the past 2 years.  After so much uncertainty due to the pandemic, I have been humbled and inspired to see Top Line athletes continue to train and race and re-commit to developing their fitness and their innate talents. Some of us pivoted and chose new sports or new events that were less affected by "lockdowns" or other such restrictions. Amy Dawson (pictured below at the Grand Canyon and at the Palo Duro Canyon Trail race) chose to refocus her training on trail running and hiking, and as such, completed the incredible Rim 2 Rim hike of the Grand Canyon in October. She also jumped into the Palo Duro Canyon 25k Trail Race and came away with an impressive 22nd place out of 249 runners! Amy is always finding new trails, roads, routes, and paths through life and does so with the utmost of gratitude and positivity; a true inspiration to all who know her. Oh - and - we always share food pics from races because after all - that IS WHY WE DO IT!

After a busy season of racing, Top Line athletes took some much-needed rest and recovery. The "off-season" is a time for regrouping and evaluating new goals for the next race season. It's also a great time to get in some local running races with the West Texas Running Club. Several of our athletes raced in the WTRC series and enjoyed opportunities to see their friends and get some valuable, hard running efforts in with crowd support and aid stations! Pictured clockwise below are Yvonne Gilinsky, Brent Aucutt, and Audrey Brown at February Freeze (2 mi and 5 mi races), all winning their age group and coming home with some hardware! Buffalo Springs Lake provided a beautiful venue for this race which lived up to its chilly name!

Now that you're caught up on the late fall and early spring news, let's look ahead to the upcoming race season: in just 3 short weeks, Top Line athletes will be lining up for an early season triathlon at Ironman 70.3 Texas on April 3rd! Follow race updates on the Irontracker app. and search for "Top Line Tri Club" athletes. Athletes have been diligently preparing for this race, persevering through some challenging weather (cold, windy, warm, cold;)) to build a great endurance base for the year. Following 70.3 Texas is Lubbock's Mayor's Marathon on April 24th, and then the focus switches to Ironman 70.3 Lubbock on June 26th!

I look forward to updating you all on race results and more upcoming races for our athletes. Also, check back in with us soon for a follow-up blog post discussing nutrition and how to approach your fueling for optimal performance. Thanks for stopping by!
